“The apparent abstraction sets the real object free by the moment it is captured.
It tells stories.”

- Franz Stanislaus Mrkvicka

“The city of Langenlois, its district Zöbing am Kamp, Krems and Stein an der Donau at the entrance to the Wachau are timeless in Maarten Rots‘ photographs. Timeless in the sense of condensing the history of the photographed buildings. The oldest are from the Gothic and early Renaissance periods. At the same time, simple objects such as a train station, a garage entrance or shadow images on a wall are equal subjects. Light and shadow form the basis of the image. Light and shadow accompany our history, the photographs reveal that subtly.

Maarten Rots‘ three-week residency as artist in residence at sommergalerieZöbing was marked by a lively personal and artistic exchange, for which we are grateful.“

- Eva and Franz Stanislaus Mrkvicka, Sommergalerie and Studio in Zöbing am Kamp, Austria.
